Narina was lucky enough to get her first penpal correspondence from Canada this week. I am sorry the photos are blurry, my phone was all I had at the moment of opening. All I can say is that the stars went on her shoes faster than I could open the rest of the letter. Thank you Moira for your lovely drawing. We will be returning a little something soon!

Listening for free
I am not sure how I came across LibriVox, the free audio books (from the public domain), but I have become addicted. I listen to a handfull of podcasts every week, usually when it is my turn to do the dishes or when I am doing non-doll related sewing, but on busy and messy weeks I run out of things to listen to by Wednesday. I then found LibriVox and downloaded a few books first chapters. I forgot they were on my phone until months later. Now I look forward to washing the dishes. Yes, me.
Have you ever been addicted to a show you can't stand? I have, and that is why we don't have a TV. I get so sucked into things even if I don't like them. I have been listening to a childhood favorite of mine. Their has been around 5 different readers so far and I am on chapter 19. Of the readers, there are people who sound like they are in the movie Fargo, young readers who over enunciate and don't know intonation, a man who sounds like he does the voice for coming attractions in movie theaters, and the latest one, a woman with a wonderful accent that I think might be Indian. She was by far the best at being a natural reader and it gave listening to the ever so white adventures of this story a really awesome twist. The lack of continuity between the voices actually really disrupts my listening experience. I get used to one person's quirks and the next person comes along and has a whole other lot of issues. (Perhaps it is me with the issues.) Some people advertise their own websites when they do the intro, some people can't pronouce the author's name or the name of the site they are being hosted on...LibriVox. Yet I can't stop.
Has anyone else listened to books from LibriVox yet?

Face scrub
A daily blog read of mine is While Tangerine Dreams. There are a few different reasons I love this blog. Kathy is Canadian, living in a part of Canada that I spent some time in as a child. She is from the same city as I grew up in and is friends with a friend of mine from high school (which is how I found out about her). She is into fiber and fabric and is homeschooling her daughter in a Waldorf style without taking herself too seriously. She writes fondly of her family and husband and of their adventures in homesteading. From time to time she busts out with a great recipe and I usually think I will get around to trying that once I have a few of the ingredients to hand, and never do. This time I had them all, right there on the same shelf. So I knocked out some "cleansing grains", or exfoliating facial wash. This is Kathy's recipe:
1/2 cup of finely ground almonds
1/2 cup ground oats
1/4 cup chamomile
1/4 cup poppyseeds
10 drops of lavender essential oil
I washed my face with it the first night and thought there was way too much poppyseed in it for regular use. So I ground up a half cup more oats and mixed it into 3/4 of my concoction and saved the other 1/4 as a once weekly intensive scrub. It does feel and smell amazing, that is for sure. I highly recommend the experience.

Bunnies...
I am sitting here in the living room after another full day sans daddy. It is 9pm and my darling little girl fell asleep five minutes ago. A 45 minutes before I go to bed so I can be present for her in the morning. Something is happening, it could be the change of not having daddy around. Perhaps it is her molars. What ever is going on, the days are very long and the nights seem rather short. Never mind. The days are good, and that is all that matters, right?
Saying that I was just looking out over our garden. Our garden has suffered this year. We have red ant nests in most of them. Voles and mice have been eating shoots as soon as they break the surface. Out of 6 beds, we managed to rabbit proof two and tonight, as I poured myself a herbal tea, I watched as two bunnies were munching away at my rocket (arugula) inside one of the "proofings". It is a lot of work to watch go to the animals. A lot of time I don't have. What I do have is thyme and I have harvested a portion of three different types. They are dried now and I am removing the leaves from the stems with great joy. That and my calendula (marigolds) are blooming their sticky flowers at the perfect rate. I am drying them and once I have enough I am going to be making a nice calendula oil for a lovely skin soother.

Mochi
Things have been a bit hard around here. It is just adjustment and that is something that I am finding harder to do as I get older. Something I am rather ashamed to admit, actually. Anyways, my man has started his busy time of year and is gone for 3 out of the 4 weeks this month and starting in August he will be gone most of the time until the baby is born. Narina, on the other hand, has decided to pop in some molars (possibly/ hopefully). She is having a hard time emotionally, which is hard for me emotionally. It is one of those things where I am trying to make sure I have some adult conversation at some point each day. Making plans without sounding desperate. Easier said than done when you live on a farm, as I am only getting an hour to myself before bed and that is when most of the chores take place. Once I am in the swing of it, I am hoping it will be easier. I have just been lucky with the time I have had Dan home for my first trimester and it is a tough adjustment.
To give you an idea of my head space, I had a complete post worked out on my love of mochi. I had photos that I was going to put along side the post. It was going to be a food love story. I took one before photo and ate the finished product with some family made maple syrup before I could take the after shots and then remembered.
